Specialty Referral Guide

HBOT Referrals from Neurology

  • OHIP-direct billing for covered indications
  • Same- or next-day urgent consults

Partner in Care

Neurology refers patients to us primarily for persistent symptoms after mild traumatic brain injury — an off-label, private-pay indication we discuss honestly with each patient and where we screen carefully for who is and is not likely to benefit.

Referral Guide

When to Refer & What to Include

Conditions to consider for HBOT referral

  • Persistent post-concussion symptoms more than 3 months after mild TBI (off-label, private-pay)
  • Selected chronic neurological wounds and pressure injuries (when an OHIP indication is met)

What to include in the referral

  • Mechanism, timing, and current symptom profile (for post-concussion)
  • Rehabilitation history
  • Cognitive testing results if available
  • Imaging where relevant

The Evidence

Evidence Highlights

  • For post-concussion symptoms: mixed randomized evidence. We discuss the evidence honestly with patients and do not promise outcomes — see our post-concussion / TBI page. Acute intracranial abscess and acute neurological hyperbaric emergencies are managed at tertiary acute hyperbaric centres, not at outpatient clinics.
Timing & urgency

Post-concussion: standard referral pathway for a private-pay consultation.

Acute neurological hyperbaric indications (intracranial abscess, acute CO neurotoxicity): please refer to the Toronto General Hospital Hyperbaric Medicine Unit.
