Quality, Safety, and Accreditation

Oversight

Physician Supervision

Every Evolve clinic is medically supervised by a physician registered with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) who holds formal hyperbaric medicine training through the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society’s Program for Advanced Training in Hyperbarics (PATH). Several of our physicians hold the Certificate of Added Qualification in Hyperbaric Medicine (CAQ-HP).

Each location has a designated Medical Director listed on the clinic page. The Medical Director is accountable for clinical protocol adherence, patient assessment standards, ongoing peer review, and physician credentialing at that site.

CSA Z275.1

Safety

Safety Standards — CSA Z275.1

Hyperbaric facilities in Canada operate under CSA Z275.1, the Canadian Standards Association standard for hyperbaric facility design, equipment, operation, and safety. CSA Z275.1 covers chamber installation and inspection, oxygen handling, fire safety, staff training, and emergency procedures.

Each Evolve location has a designated Safety Director responsible for day-to-day safety operations, per CSA requirements, with independent authority on safety matters.

Equipment

Chambers — Perry Baromedical Monoplace

Evolve operates Perry Baromedical Sigma 34 and Sigma 36 monoplace hyperbaric chambers. These are medical-grade hyperbaric chambers designed specifically for single-patient hyperbaric oxygen therapy at treatment pressures up to 3.0 ATA, manufactured by Perry Baromedical, a long-established U.S. hyperbaric chamber manufacturer.

Chamber details:

  • Clear acrylic monoplace design — patient visible to staff at all times, with continuous intercom communication.
  • 100% medical-grade oxygen delivery.
  • Treatment pressures typically 1.5–2.4 ATA depending on the indication.
  • Standard session length 90 minutes plus pressurization and depressurization (total ~2 hours).
  • Entertainment screen for in-chamber video and music.
  • Daily safety and operational checks by trained chamber technicians.

Standards of Care

Clinical Protocols &
Informed Consent

Clinical protocols

Treatment protocols at Evolve are mapped to the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society Indications Manual (Moon RE, ed. 14th edition, 2019) — the most widely recognized clinical reference in hyperbaric medicine. Protocols are reviewed periodically and updated as evidence evolves. Each patient receives an individualized treatment plan based on diagnosis, comorbidities, and clinical response.

Informed consent

All patients undergo a physician-led consultation before treatment begins. The consultation covers the rationale for HBOT, the expected protocol, potential benefits, known risks and side effects, alternatives to HBOT, and (for off-label or investigational indications) explicit disclosure of off-label use. Written informed consent is obtained before the first treatment session.

Quality Assurance

How We Maintain Standards

Chart audits

Clinical files are reviewed periodically against protocol adherence and documentation standards.

Peer review

Physician-to-physician case discussion across the network for complex or atypical cases.

Outcome tracking

For OHIP-covered indications, key clinical endpoints are tracked to inform protocol refinement.

Continuing education

All hyperbaric physicians maintain ongoing UHMS continuing medical education credits in hyperbaric medicine.

Incident reporting

Internal incident tracking with mandatory escalation pathways.
