OHIP-Covered HBOT Conditions in Ontario
OHIP Coverage
Covered by OHIP
Evolve Hyperbarics is an OHIP-approved hyperbaric oxygen therapy provider. We treat 9 OHIP-covered conditions across our Ontario clinic network. Eligible Ontario residents with a valid health card and a qualifying diagnosis pay nothing out of pocket — OHIP covers 100% of treatment costs, and our team manages all OHIP documentation on your behalf.
A physician referral is preferred but not required to be assessed. If you have a referring physician, we coordinate with them throughout your care. If you don’t, our licensed hyperbaric physicians can assess you directly and — after assessment — connect you with the relevant doctors or contact your existing care team to ensure your care is coordinated.

What if my condition is not on the list above?
Some conditions have a biologically defensible rationale for HBOT and may be considered on a private-pay basis with explicit informed consent. See our Off-Label Indications page for details on what is and is not appropriate for off-label use.
If your situation is a hyperbaric emergency
Acute carbon monoxide poisoning, air or gas embolism, decompression sickness, gas gangrene, severe necrotizing soft tissue infections, and acute crush injury are time-critical hyperbaric emergencies. They are managed in a tertiary acute-care hyperbaric facility, not at an outpatient clinic.
In Ontario, the regional referral centre for acute hyperbaric emergencies is the Toronto General Hospital Hyperbaric Medicine Unit. If you are seeing a patient in the emergency department, contact that service directly. If you are a patient and your situation is urgent, please go to your nearest emergency department or call 911.
Getting Started
How Eligibility Is Determined
Eligibility is assessed directly by an Evolve hyperbaric physician at consultation. A referral from your physician is preferred — it speeds the process and helps us coordinate with your care team — but not required. If you reach us without a referral, we assess you, then connect you with the relevant doctors or contact your existing care team to coordinate ongoing care. The process generally involves:
1
Initial contact (phone or online form)
Our Care Coordinators confirm OHIP coverage in principle and gather preliminary clinical information.
2
Hyperbaric physician consultation
The physician confirms that your diagnosis matches an OHIP-eligible indication and reviews disease-specific severity and prior management.
3
Contraindication screening
Screening for absolute and relative contraindications (untreated pneumothorax, certain chemotherapy agents, severe COPD, and others).
4
Treatment plan discussion
Discussion of the proposed treatment plan, expected number of sessions, and realistic outcomes. We will tell you honestly if HBOT is not likely to help.
5
Documentation & scheduling
If eligible, we manage all OHIP documentation on your behalf and coordinate scheduling at the Evolve clinic nearest you.
